Bubble Up Scheduled
September 8-9, 2022
Our bubble is scheduled to go up on Thursday, September 8, 2022, weather permitting.
The courts will be unavailable for play from 8:00 a.m. September 8 and 9, reopening Saturday, September 10, at 8 a.m. In the event of rain on the 8th, the bubble process will be postponed and we will advise the membership accordingly.
Please note that there are many factors that determine the bubble schedule. Most pertinent, is the fact that there is only one company that offers this service, and it is quite a specialized procedure. This company takes down all the bubbles in the lower mainland and Seattle/Portland. You can imagine, that everyone wants their bubbles up and down at the same time. To make things more difficult, this process can only be done on a completely dry day.
Several years ago, the scheduling was changed to accommodate the clubs that have no alternative indoor facilities. We feel it is a great benefit to be among the first to go up, as there were several years in the past that we did not get the bubble up until the end of October. The courts sat empty, junior programs were cancelled, and members were very unhappy. Once the rain comes, all the scheduled bubbles get pushed back one by one, and you have to stay in order.
We believe it is better to have the bubble up before the heavy rains come, as this way our members continue to have an opportunity to play tennis, either at the club, or on public courts if it gets too hot in the bubble.
